Another fantastic website for you to check out with some really useful resources to help you on your leadership journey.
Amanda Cook's 5 min mindfullness break sounds good. Its similar to my count to 100, the difference being remember to breath!!! If my boss turned up during it though he'd definately be on the back foot????
thought I had posted this but Internet went down. Sorry if it appears twice. I was intrigued by the name of Amanda Cook's article, "5 minute pick-me-up better than coffee". I know that when I get uptight or stressed at work I go for a coffee. I think it is my body's way of telling me to get offside for some 'down time'. Caffeine is not a good solution to an already stressful situaution. I was also recently at a Seminar about Change Management, where there was a really good input about neuroplasticity, and the chemical changes in the brain when people are dealing with something new and the subsequent changes once the change has been internalised or accepted. I thought that I should start to try the "mindfulness" technique. Jim Collins talks of the importance for leaders in discipline. I started trying to use the technique with little optimism as my mind is usually going at 150 miles an hour. Initially I met with abject failure and feeling more stressed and frustrated. However I have persevered and think I a making progress, be it slow. I haven't made a full 5 minutes yet but I will get there. I am also trying to use the technique to help get me in the frame of mind to do some reflective practice, and I think it will really help. Neuro science convinces that old dogs can learn new tricks, they just need to want to.
